Deep  in the Interior of Maine, Mt. Katahdin rises some 4000' above the Valley Floor.

.
At 5267' it is not the Tallest of the Eastern Peaks.  But on a Threatening Day in July, it Gave  Cheryl and me a Thrill.
We started our Day at 7 AM by Climbing the the Eastern Ridge.
As we got Higher the Weather became Less Stable.
By the Time we reached the Summit of Pamola, the Eastern Terminus of the Knife Edge, we were in the Clouds and the Wind was Howling.
This is the Couple that took our Photo on the Summit.  If you notice the Blue Blaze on the Cliff, you can get some Idea of what kind of Trail the Knife Edge is.
There are 3 Summits on the Knife Edge, and this is the South Summit.  Cheryl is Crawling here because she was being Blown Over.
Our Route was 9.8 Miles long and 3787' of Elevation Gain.  It took us 10 and a Half Hours.

We Recently Hiked Mt. Marcy in the Adirondaks, 15 Miles, 3266', and it took us 9 Hours.  Katahdin is a Big Day and is my Favorite of the Eastern High Peaks.

The Knife Edge is Only 1.10 Miles But it took us 2 Hours to Negotiate and Reach the Katahdin Summit.
From the Katahdin Summit we still had 5 Hours of hiking ahead of us.  The trail is very Rocky and Ran with Water as it Rained on Us.
